Portraits, Really Seeing People

As an artist and photographer who finds inspiration in capturing landscapes, I also love photographing people. Encapsulating the essence of individuals in still photographs and getting to really know them in the moment is what drives a shoot.

I strive to freeze moments that reflect not just poses, but the expressions, and fleeting nuances that define someone’s unique presence; the diversity of it all. When I photography someone, I am really paying attention to their face and how it moves, and I talk A LOT.

I have a lot of friends who are tech heads, and that's awesome. I can certainly exsist in that sapce, but natural light is and has always been my jam. Maybe it has something to do with the challenge of time and not wanting to have total control over everything.

A photo mentor of mine said to me once, "The most constant thing about photography is that light is always changing", paraphrasing, but that always stuck with me.

Capturing the energy of real-time interactions with the stillness of a photograph, preserving the authenticity and spontaneity of each subject is the challenge. Very specifically when it comes to portraiture, I want to create beautiful images and I want the subject to understand that I really do see them. You can check out more of my portrait work here.
