Vanitease
A study on color, shape and abstract form, Vanitease, 2022, addresses the part of me that feels like my job as a queer male artist is to question the standards of beauty within gay male culture and partially dismantle them for the viewer while remaining honest about being a part of the culture that still elevates these conventions.
This is why I considered these blurred images only partially dismantled. As I continue to the series, the idea of artists using body as resource, and further more "relying on that body" to create attractive queer art establishes a base for the viewer to let go of that base and instead focus on shape and color for the sake of composition, harmony, and abstraction.
